How Thrive Began
Thrive Advocacy Collective was born from lived experience — from a mother and son’s fight to find help, hope, and healing in a system that often made both feel impossible. What started as one family’s search for answers became a mission to guide others through illness, recovery, and grief with compassion, clarity, and care.
The Boy Who Taught Us How to Thrive
When Kingston Navarro was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a form of pediatric brain cancer, his world changed overnight. Surgery and treatment brought long days in the hospital and nights filled with uncertainty. After surgery, he developed posterior fossa syndrome, a rare complication that temporarily took his ability to speak and walk. Despite the fear and frustration that followed, Kingston refused to give up.
Through every setback, he showed courage and patience beyond his years. His laughter still found a way to fill hospital rooms. His eyes told stories even when his voice could not. He worked through therapy, pain, and exhaustion with a quiet strength that inspired everyone who met him.
When he entered remission in 2018, his determination only grew stronger. Recovery became another battle he was willing to face head-on. Though the road was long and uncertain, Kingston’s spirit remained unshaken. He taught everyone around him that thriving is not the absence of struggle, but the decision to meet it with faith, humor, and love.

Meet the Mom Behind the Mission
When her son Kingston was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a form of pediatric brain cancer, Maile Navarro entered a world no parent is prepared for. She became an advocate overnight, navigating hospitals, specialists, insurance barriers, and the constant uncertainty of childhood illness. Even after Kingston entered remission in 2018, there was little guidance on how to help him recover from posterior fossa syndrome or rebuild after treatment.
Determined to give her son every chance to heal, Maile spent years researching, writing letters, and fighting for therapies that insurance would not cover. Her persistence and love drove Kingston’s progress, and his determination to be himself again fueled her every step.
When Kingston passed, Maile turned her heartbreak into purpose by creating Thrive Advocacy Collective and The Live Like Kingston Foundation to support families facing pediatric illness, grief, and life after loss. Today she uses her experience in family advocacy, grief education, and end-of-life navigation to guide others through the systems that once failed her, ensuring no parent has to face illness or bereavement alone.
